The Best Popcorn in the World

Sweet on the left. This is by my bus stop.

Today’s entry is going to be painfully short due to an unfortunate encounter with a meeting that went on at least 4 times longer than expected. I’m going to be much more careful about volunteering myself for these things. I had some really good stuff to put up on PushSamba, but alas, all will have to wait.

I refuse to use the flash. Patricia, Lauren, Carolina.

I celebrated the 4th of July last night with about a dozen American kids who are down here studying Portuguese as well as a couple of Cariocas. It was a good time. We had one American flag, Halloween napkins, Ruffles, and hot dogs. No fireworks, but we watched Team America, so. I’m amazed at how quickly expatriates are able to find one another. I’ve been here for barely two weeks and I was able to rally a bunch of kids from all over the US for a little BBQ. I wish we got along so easily on our home turf.

I forgot to write yesterday about the sister missionaries at church on Sunday. One of the sisters is typical sister missionary age, probably around 22. Her companion however, is 68. I lived with a 58 year old for about two months when I first moved to San Diego and almost lost it. For those of you that don’t know much about Mormon missions. This 22-ish year old girl has to spend nearly every waking moment of her life with this her 68 year old companion until one of them is assigned to another area. The change of assignment might not happen for months. Blows my mind.
