The Best Pizza in this City

Pão de Azucar at night

I first had the best pizza in this city on Saturday night. Then I had it again last night with Jorge. This pizza is found in a grocery store called Zona Sul less than a block from where I live. I’m gathering that this place is essentially a Brazilian Albertson’s and I don’t know if they all have pizzerias, but I live in a cushy neighborhood so I might just be lucky. They do it pseudo-authentic Italian style with really thin crust and simple ingredients. I don’t know if they use a wood oven, but the crust always comes out a bit charred which is good (to me!). The clientele is made up of a lot of classy looking older people—who probably have some legitimate claim on Italian authenticity—who are there before I arrive and there when I leave sipping on red wine while they eat their pizza with forks and knives. Oh, and a pizza (a really really good pizza) costs about $7. Anyway, be advised: the best pizza I’ve found in this city is at a grocery store called Zona Sul.

There’s very little to report. I know I had about a million ideas flurrying through my mind to get down on here, but work’s picking up and I’ve also started posting articles on my “professional” blog: Push Samba. Nonetheless, don’t despair. Things are always getting better…ALWAYS, and I’ll keep the entries coming.

If you’ve been following this blog, you’ll notice that I’ve changed the background pattern from the lovely floral pattern I used before. I concocted the new background from a few photos of the wide tiled sidewalk that runs along the beach in Lebl??n and Ipanema as seen here:

Tilewalk with girls. Oh! There’s my shadow over there.

It’s as Carioca a background you can get.
