Nyam!!!

Brazilian ice cream-related exclamations

So, there’s my second “photo” from Brazil. You’re looking at a compilation of four ice cream posters representing the rich diversity of ethnicities in brazil as well as four sexy Brazilian sounds. The bottom two are pretty straight forward. Ôbaaaaa, in any length, is a very Brazilian exclamation that translates fairly easily to an American yeah or ooh. And humm transfers pretty easily to mmmm!

It’s the top two that I’m intrigued by. I’ve never heard any person ever say croc or anything similar when they were excited. I’m going to have to pay attention while I’m down here and see if I can catch anyone saying it. I guess I’ll hang out around people eating ice cream.

The other one, nham, is my favorite. In English, it’d be pronounced nyam, and I think it’s pretty much the Brazilian spelling of yum. I hope I’m not boring anyone with this, but I’ve been fascinated by foreign extra-linguistic words ever since I found out that Venezuelans said suazzz! instead of splash!

Rio’s awesome so far. I rolled through my neighborhood last night in a bulletproof BMW 745 and I like my job. I’ve taken a few pictures of my surroundings, but none of them deserve posting quite yet. It’s actually a little cloudy and I haven’t been able to do the city justice on film.

jed, i’ve already managed to find a way to use suazzz! with my wife and croc! with a trio of little blonde beasts.
