I was just in the Casa Rosada a few weeks ago, and found the same interesting cap on the sheild. You’ll be happy to know that the Guards at the Casa de Gobierno did give me a brief history of the cap, but without the name. Just said that it was taken from the French Revolution, and signified liberty. Now I’m writing a paper on it.

Thanks for the great article. Its always great to learn something new! It was also interesting to learn from Wikipedia that a Phrygian cap is an integral part of the seal of the US Senate.

The red hat is call “gorro frigio”. It represent the freedom. The US Senate has it in its Blasó. I have no doubt your tourism guide did know anything about the Argentina Blasó. You can learn more in Wikipedia. You will see a picture of the “Freedom” wearing a “Gorro Frigio” and a French flag during the French Rev.
